Support for Extensible Markup Language (XML) and XML features in Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 allows developers to build Web and enterprise database applications that function across system platforms and different programming languages. Enhancements to both XML and Microsoft .NET Framework support in SQL Server since the release of SQL Server 2000 and the addition of SOAP Web services support for SQL Server have further expanded this capability. The sample application that is described in this paper demonstrates how you can use Microsoft SQLXML 3.0 and Microsoft Visual Basic® .NET to build an extensible and scalable Web site.
