Bob Muglia kicked off the annual Microsoft Management Summit (MMS) at the wonderful Venetian in Las Vegas by talking about Dynamic IT. Dynamic IT is about the vision that Microsoft is having for dynamic datacenters and centers around 4 key pillars; Unified & Virtualized, Service-Enabled, User-Focused and Proces-Led & Model-Driven. This vision is a 10 year effort, and Microsoft is currently at the 5-year milestone. | ||

Gee, it seems like just yesterday Microsoft was calling Linux a toy, a cancer, like Communism, etc etc. Now they're making management tools for it. That's about as tacit an admission that MS was wrong as you're likely to see from Redmond.

Latch: If you are refering to SCVMM, the goal is to manage ESX Virtual Servers...not linux.
And to manage ESX, you need Virtual Center that runs on Windows..... Managing an application is different than managing an OS. As for SCOM and having Linux agent, Microsoft did it because it was a number 1 request from customers for the SCOM product. It just proves that Microsoft is listening for their customers. #2: Proves it? Yes, MS is legendary for listening to their customers.
I think the obvious answer, and this isn't a knock on MS, is that they've finally accepted that Linux will not ever go away. If you've got a mixed data centre then MS wants you to use their tools to manage everything. |

Linux != ESX Virtual Servers... please read and understand the differences.
Citrix/Xen want you to use their products to manage everything "virtual" VMWare want you to use their products to manage everything "virtual" This is called competition... something that you consistently beat on Microsoft about... so whats your point now?? |

| #4: My point, which I've said in both #1 and #3, was that Linux has come a long way in a short time as measured by Microsoft's attitudes towards it. |
