While I'm just as eager to get my hands on SP3 as everyone else, it amazes me how everyone seems to ignore the fact that RTM stands for release to manufacturing, not release to world.
Traditionally, when software reached RTM, it meant that the factory could start stamping discs and packaging the product. It generally takes at least a week to ramp up to the level where they start shipping product in volume to retail channels and OEM partners. The advent of Internet downloads has sped up the process somewhat, however it is illogical to expect MS to be ready for widespread release on the same day as RTM.
If Microsoft has made any mistake here, it is that they continue to allow RTM to be announced via employee blogs and forums. If they had simply waited until the 28th to provide an official announcement of availability, then no one would have any reason to complain. (But then where's the fun in that.)
