I have posted my review of Microsoft's Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000, Microsoft's highest-end (and most-expensive at $299) hardware product. Here is an excerpt: The keyboard is nearly identical to the one included in the Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000. The major differences between the two are the following (as the mouse is nearly identical): the keyboard has a aluminum finish, is rechargeable, has a magnifier button, and the recharging hub (now used for the mouse and keyboard) has been upgraded. In addition, there are 4 USB ports on the charging hub. A few negatives, there is no keypad and the keyboard is quite flat, if you are used to a more angled keyboard. | ||

| Yes, this keyboard is very pricey. We bought this for use in our office conference room and its perfect for that. We had a gyration product in there and this guy smokes it. Its awesome and I love it. The only neg I see is personally I would rather have a more angled keyboard as this sits flat. But this is perfect for our conference room (with its glow in the dark keys). This sits in the middle of the conference table and can be passed around easily. The usb on the hub is also very handy for pluggin in memory keys and the like. Way expensive but if you have the bucks then why not. |

| I have this keyboard set too - comparing it to the Logitech DiNovo though doesn't make it look so good - I find the layout and look of the DiNovo much better and far cheaper to buy with a Logitech revolution mouse. Nothing wrong with the MS one - its just over priced. |

I have the 7000 one which I use with my Media Center box and it is great; no more need to seat on the edge of the couch and push myself out to be able to control the TV, my keyboard, and I assume this one too, have an excellent transmitter. Said that, and in spite of the excellent quality of MS hardware, I think I would still pick the 7000 over this; I paid the former around $110 and I do not see anything justifying the price difference.
If they added a detachable "mouse pad" instead of the regular one I could have been tempted though. Well maybe a future 9000 one will add it. This post was edited by Fritzly on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 12:53. |

Well to be fair, compairing the Dinovo to the 7000 (this guy's little brother) doesn't make the Dinovo look so good either. At $149 its $50 cheaper than the Dinovo and the only thing you really sacrifice is the number keypad. I prefer the charging station for the 8000 as it sits flat and has 4 extra USB slots for USB Keys, USB Hard Drives, anything else USB. Thats really handy and again I guess you are really paying for the backlight on this guy. If you don't need that I would pickup the 7000. As far as looks go I very much prefer the MS stuff to the Logitech. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Having said that I wouldn't use any of these "media keyboards" for everyday usage. They sit flat and for me become irritating in extended usage scenarios.
