In January, the PS3 outsold the 360, and the sky proceeded to fall in (at least, it did for 360 fanboys). Will the same thing happen in February? Probably, if comments today by Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg are anything to go by. Speaking with Reuters about their current sales and supply situation, Greenberg said

Hate to say it, but its now being outsold by merit not due to low stock - it has been out nearly 3 years after all. There is stock everywhere, check any stores...it's just now being outsold by the PS3 which was expected by most people this year.

Just went to my Local Target, Walmart, and Costco. The sales associate said there were all sold out.

all sold out at Best Buy by my house (No wiis either)... Plenty of PS3's to be had. It might be in stock in Europe but there are for sure supply constraints here in the states. Maybe thats why they decreased the price there. Target did have some 360s on the shelf (3).
360 still dominates PS3 in my opinion and I haven't seen anything worth the premium they are asking for. If it gets around 250 i will probably pick one up. The only thing that really matters is software sales. As long as 360 sells as much software as the PS3 then they will continue making games for it (right now PS3's are getting ports). MS really had a winning strategy this gen. Sony could have destroyed them had they not included BluRay.

Right or wrong, the whole BluRay thing can't help but help PS3 sales. And MS's announcement that it will NOT support BluRay on the XBox 360 was about as stupid as it gets.
Rising prices of stand-alone BluRay players will also drive PS3 sales.
Sony has everyone by the nuts right now. This is the worst possible scenario for consumers.

Well if you noticed what MS actually said was that they have no plans of building an integrated bluray player into 360. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they made a Blu Ray add on just like they did for HDDVD. It makes no sense to integrate Blu Ray when the drives they have out now read slower than the DVD players already in the 360. Some people might buy PS3's for BluRay but those same people aren't necessarily gamers. That is going to kill the PS3's attach rate and make it less attractive for game developers. I still think it was dumb for them to include Blu Ray and cede so much share to Microsoft.

In the same way it was dumb for microsoft to rush out the 360, have such a massive failure rate and bad pr and waste 2 billion to fix it.

2 billion for 40% market share of a 10 billion a year industry is easy math for anyone. Who wouldn't do that?

C'mon Byron. you are the first commenter here... then get ripped apart by evidence (anecdotal, but still more than you supplied). Then, you switch to a completely fresh argument at comment 6. If you've got an ax to grind... then grind it... but don't expect us to swallow your claims of neutrality and fairness next week.

Why would I have an axe to grind? I own 4 360's and its my most played console! The only axe i grinded was that this was a PR piece from Microsoft trying to state how great their position is even when they are the 5th selling best console this month and did poorly last month too - which was strange when people here also stated there was stock around.
Still find it funny that you have to assume everyone here who questions things is wrong. 2 people here have said they are out of stock, 5 others I know have said they have fine stock in the places they live - doesn't mean I disbelieve the two posters here. At least some people here unlike yourself accepts both sides of stories.
If you believe the evidence here - read the forums and comment boards around that questioned this PR release - which i think says it all...stating most stores near and around those posters had fine stock. Oh and the online stores are even stating "shipping in 24 hours" inc Wal-Mart and Ebworld....also stating its in stores.
Over here no there is no sign of any sell out and it's being outsold by the PS3 and Wii, but thats no surprise in Europe same as it won't be as the year goes on in America. I'll eat my words without hesitation if in 4 months time the 360 back with its "full" stock is outselling the PS3.
Try pulling your head out of the sand now and then mooresa - it doesn't hurt you. The only axe that gets grinded here is by people like you who have a one sided view to everything Microsoft.

#7 - Oh not saying it wasn't easy maths, it is a waste that didn't need to happen though - but it no different to Sony adding Blu-Ray - you class Blu-ray as a dumb decision, most people would say the same to a company who rushes out a product without proper testing that then fails when out to the public. Still guess it was 2 billion or massive lawsuits in the future.

From comment #8, let me quote myself... "If"
Byron - "Still find it funny that you have to assume everyone here who questions things is wrong."
Which post #1 or #6 do you actually ask a question within? Answer: NEITHER. You didn't question anything... you treated it simply as an outright lie.
"The only axe that gets grinded here is by people like you who have a one sided view to everything Microsoft. "
I love you too.

I get what you are saying but MS had to "rush" to gain share. This is and always has been Sony's game to lose. Sony pretty much dominated Xbox 1 with the PS2, even though the xbox was in many ways better. Xbox had some good releases but PS2 aged much better. From a consumer standpoint I don't care if it breaks if its free to fix it. That is almost better PR in my book, they are standing by their product. Does Sony have that type of warranty on their stuff? And full disclosure I have had to send my 360 in for repair but again it was free to do so and I had it back in a week and a half. MS was first to market this gen and that is starting to pay dividends. Sometimes MS is just genius and here again they are going to dominate the competition.
My favorite quote from early on in the Console war "Rumble was a last gen feature" - Sony Executive

I agree with the quote like the one from MS about the Xbox 360 being "only about the games" when HD-DVD died yet they push downloadable films etc on that service. All companies make stupid comments now and then.
As for the warranty - no Sony certainly doesn't have that kind of Warrenty on their stuff - but in fairness to them and believe me I'm no fan of theirs either - the PS3 is an excellent piece of hardware and has such low failures did they need to? No - they didn't have the PR mess about failures that Microsoft had and kept denying - Sony just had other PR disasters over and over from Harrison who has thankfully gone.
Like you I've had first hand experience about the repairs to the 360's - I've had to return 5, one as soon as the "fixed" one came back too - some before the warrenty adjustment some after - before the warrenty changes the repair system was a massive failure like the system itself with delays in returns...I'm glad they fixed it, but in saying that they had to otherwise there would have been a bigger disaster than it was turning into.
I guess I just see thing disfferently - saying they are going to dominate the competition doesn't seem to make any sense to me - if they are/were why are they not far further ahead right now than they are - also I guess you are discounting the Wii too..released a lot later yet worldwide sales are catching up the 360. I just don't see the domination at all yet - I think they deserve to win this war but saying its over already is massively wrong - Sony will sell more this year than the Xbox 360 does and if they don't then there is something wrong I just think after 3 years MS should have sold a lot more by now.

#11 - I was just stating what you do is always state anyone who questions Microsoft's PR or such like is always wrong when a lot of them are not. I've never said its an outright lie even if to me it seems like it might well be - no one can prove it is or it isn't at the moment until they finally admit they have fine stock - which they have stated will be in a couple of months which again doesn't add up to me.
My view of questioning is looking for more than two people here saying they have no stock where they are - a lot of people who are massive fans of MS or 360 will say there is no stock where they are when there is just for backup - like others who hate them will say there is loads of stock - I like to look at the people and actual sites who sell and buy them to get actual real unbias comments...try it sometime too ;o)

I have decided to just not participate in the HD fomat wars at all. I could care less that Blu Ray has won. The way I see it downloadable content is the future. I know many people that have given up buying DVD's altogether and just rip off all their movies now. These are people that bought large numbers of DVDs and were tired of the HD format fight. So they turned to other ways to get their movies. Right or wrong I think the format fight did more to alienate people and force them to look for other options. In the end Sony may have won but they might of won what turns out to be a sinking ship.

#15 I do agree that the future is downloadable but:
1) We need "real" high speed connection; unfortunately this Country is way behind other industrialized ones. My brother in Rome, Italy, pays €35/month for 35MB connection; also included phone service, caller ID and answering machine.
2) Hollywood needs to realize that consumers are not squeezable lemons; get rid of DRM and people will buy. Unfortunately the people in charge are still the same that stated that the VCR was going to destroy the movie industry. Guess what? They were making more money selling and renting VHS cassettes than with movies in theatres.
