The Virtual Earth team has grown once again with the acquisition of Caligari Corporation, a small company that has been pioneering 3D modeling and animation since it was founded in 1986. In 1994, Caligari released the famous trueSpace, a powerful 3D graphics and animation package (originally for Amiga and now for Windows). Caligari CEO Roman Ormandy, the man who heads the team that is based in California and Slovakia, has brought trueSpace through many releases over its 20-year history.
According to the company's corporate fact sheet, Caligari has always focused on using visual communication in various markets. Ormandy emphasized that his development team and Caligari's community of Beta testers will remain the same. He is also "deeply convinced that union of Caligari technologies and the scope of Virtual Earth project and vision behind it creates the perfect home for us and new opportunities for each one of you as part of the Virtual Earth community."
