The U.S. government on Monday opposed Microsoft Corp.'s effort to throw out claims against it by nine states on grounds that a proposed antitrust settlement has already been reached with the federal government. While questioning the wisdom of the states' proposals, the Justice Department said states refusing to back its settlement with Microsoft have the authority to pursue more severe antitrust sanctions, despite company claims to the contrary. | ||

| No, the real issue, whether the DOJ wants to make you believe something else or not, was whether they would oppose the states' authority to pursue the case. Just because they are trying to make it sound like the Judge should only accept their remedy--it's not important. The only question she put to the DOJ was whether or not they agreed with the MS position that the states do not have the constitutional right to pursue the case. Just because the DOJ gets to load the story with their crap, doesn't mean the title shouldn't focus on what is important. |
