And you expected it to look like what? Windows ME? Ubuntu? There are not going to be any big crazy changes with Windows 7 that is for sure. The only reason they won't call it Vista R2 is because the Vista name has a whole bunch of baggage associated with it now. |

You keep going on about the insane amount of money you have to pay for it when the vast majority of people buy it OEM and pay a relatively small sum for it. If you want a retail copy of ultimate then pony up the cash. If you don't like that then there are many other options. How come no one bitches about the hardware tax you have to pay when you buy OS X? Or that you have to pay 129 bucks for what amounts to a service pack. Besides I didn't realized people were being forced to buy Vista. If you don't like the price then don't buy it or better yet run an alternative OS. |

You know, I bet the first M1 of Vista looked just like XP.
If you're working on a new operating system, especially when you're basically re-writing it for efficiency which seems to be the point of 7, I don't think you're going to do up a bunch of fancy new graphics first, and then put in the features. I think you're going to put in the features first using your existing artwork, and then come up with the new graphics. |

#5 is right, Windows 7 is just at M1 right now, the versioning has not even been applied where the kernel is at 7.0. Windows 2000 went through this phase when it was called NT 5, XP went through this phase when it was called Whistler and the same case applied to Vista.
Its very early days, its not even an Alpha. |

it seems that everything snaps to the screen...but somewhere in the process from MS labs to the end user desktop the code seems to run slower and slower
In the vista demo everything was zippy..that is not the case on my core 2 duo lappy with 2 gigs of ram...sometimes vista crawls |

| #1 Clearly you don't know anything about Windows development. Virtually every past version of Windows has looked like its predecessor up till years after the first screenshots have been leaked (look at XP, looked like 2000 for a while until they implemented some UI changes but "Luna" was literally put in only months before release) The UI is one of the last things to be implemented. So it's not a surprise it looks like Vista now. It's waaaaaay too early to be making any sort of judgement, especially judgement mistakingly based on the UI in the current build. |
