Following Warner's lead, sister company New Line has confirmed that it will support Blu-ray Disc high def releases exclusively. New Line has previously delayed their day-and-date new releases on HD DVD due to the format's lack of region coding, effectively making titles such as Shoot 'em Up, Hairspray, and Rush Hour 3 exclusive to Blu-ray. Although a 2008 release slate for the studio has not been released, an announcement may be possible at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Region coding is one of the primary reasons consumers should say NO to Blu-Ray.
Not to mention all the esoteric copy protection that causes players to not play movies until the firmware is updated.
Blu-Ray is one big pain in the consumers ass totally controlled by Sony, and I don't know about anyone else but given Sony's track record with consumers this would be a terrible thing to happen.

DVD's have had region coding and copy protection since year dot... so its nothing new and in reality it doesn't really make any different to the world.
Sony DOES NOT control the Blu-Ray "format"!!!
The Blu-ray board of directors (aka who decides what happens with the format) contains Apple, Inc., Dell, HP, Hitachi, LG, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Sun Microsystems, TDK, Thomson, Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney, Warner Bros.
They are supported by various companies such as AMD, Canon, Fujitsu Ltd, NEC Electronics Corporation with general members such as Adobe Systems, B&W Group and so on... theres a HUGE list at this link: http://www.blu-raydisc.com/general_information/Section-14009/Index.html
The bottom line is: just because some American's like HD DVD's and you may have more standalone sales of HD players and discs... (and thats only happening in USA) it really means nothing because there are BILLIONS of people in the rest of the world (remember them?!) who spend more in total on electronics than the Americans.
Now you lot can reply with just how great you are... how you decide what really happens in the world... yadda yadda yadda... begin now...

Until the BILLIONS of potential consumers in the world obtain sufficient potable water, required nutrition, and basic local economies to support current-day technology offerings, your argument (MyBlueRex) is moot. In most non-First-World countries, access to consumer electronics is a privilege of the very few -- not a means for the masses.
Thus, HD-DVD's and Blu-Ray competing standards still has mass effect to the next billion consumers (beyond the couple of million who would buy early generations).
Keep in mind, if only about 100 million people have purchased current generation gaming consoles (XBOX360, Wii, PS3), then that's the current level of consumers with sufficient disposable income to bother with HD-DVD/Blu-Ray discussions.

The UN states there are approximately 1.5 billion in such a state. That leaves some 5.2 billion people "left over"... thats a heck of a lot of people compared to the minor amount of only 303 million of USA.
Remember there are 2.5 billion in China and India alone... Sure they're paid a few dollars per hour to provide all these electronics to the rest of us... BUT have you seen how damn CHEAP electronics are in those places?! A few weeks ago, while passing through China, I picked up a 46" HD LCD for only $350 US dollars
As US has the very minor amount of the worlds population, of which only some 16% can afford "high tech" electronics (according to the USA Governments own statistics)... thats a small amount of people compared to the rest of the world (50 million vs 830 million) using the same percentages.
The 360 is being outsold around the world at least 2:1... HD DVD (players and discs) is being outsold around the world at least 2:1. Simple fact. Its what the consumers are buying in the WORLD... not the little market of USA.

The 360 is being outsold around the world? WHAT??! Only in Japan. The 360 outsells the PS3 in the USA, Europe and Australia handily (the other major markets).
Now you lot can reply with just how great you are... how you decide what really happens in the world... yadda yadda yadda... begin now...
Gotta love the anti-american fud. Pathetic. Let me guess, you probably still think black people should be picking cotton? Goes to show that prejudice and bigotry is still alive and well worldwide. Sad.
Population wise, USA is a little market in comparison, though it spends the most money.

Outselling you say? Please provide proof of this? In Australia just last week, the sales figures were recently and they easily show the PS3 outselling the 360 3:1. In the extremely small market of New Zealand its 5:1. In the UK and EU its 3:1.
Wow Brian, you are really showing your own prejudice and bigotry with those comments!
Yes... Americans have the most money. That is a fact. And just what do the Americans spend it on? WAR!! I don't hear of the American Gov cutting their military budget by 90% and spending that money on making the world a better place? i.e. NO poverty? NO food shortages? and so on.
Did you know that New Zealanders with a population of only 4.1 million, gives more per person to WHO, UN, Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and so on, per person than your normal American?
How about trying to make the WORLD a better place than just looking after your own arses and starting wars for oil!!

It's interesting to hear TechLarry's view of Sony given their track record but not necessarily applying the same reasoning to other companies with much worse track records. It's also interesting how so many from the MS camp are also behind HD-DVD. I happen to agree with TechLarry when it comes to Sony which is why I have been a little "stand-off'ish" when it comes to BluRay but I'm behind the format that will give me the greatest capacity. Simple as that really - the more capacity the higher the bitrate that can be set - so perhaps we can just skip this "war" and move onto HVD's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc) which will hold almost 4TB.

#6 PS3 may be outselling 360, but then, 360 is longer in the market.
Did you know that New Zealanders with a population of only 4.1 million, gives more per person to WHO, UN, Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and so on, per person than your normal American?
That's right. It is easier to send people to those missions then to send them to combat, right?
How about trying to make the WORLD a better place than just looking after your own arses and starting wars for oil!!
Yeah right. For example, South Korea was saved from communists because of oil.
And you don't need to send them Doctors without Borders there, do you? How is world not better place because of that?
US does the heavy lifting and that's the reason you're not speaking Japanese today. Maybe you should appreciate that.

What surprises me is if consumer hate DRM and copy protection so much, why did they "choose" blu-ray when it has copy protection in addition to AACS. Did their "choice" merely happen due to the PS3 or due to ignorance? Would they like buying copies of CloneCD and CloneDVD instead of using managed copy provided by HD DVD? Also, in the titles released so far, all HD DVD movie discs I've seen include the so called "Advanced Content" interactivity whereas few Blu-ray discs include BD-J-based interactivity. And why is it so strange that Apple supports Blu-ray and yet DVD Studio Pro encodes today to HD DVD?

"Please provide proof of this?"
Exactly.
And no, the PS3 is NOT outselling the 360.. The only thing outselling the 360 is the Wii. The 360 is crushing the PS3 in every region except Japan.
"Wow Brian, you are really showing your own prejudice and bigotry with those comments!"
Elaborate.
"Yes... Americans have the most money. That is a fact. And just what do the Americans spend it on? WAR!! I don't hear of the American Gov cutting their military budget by 90% and spending that money on making the world a better place? i.e. NO poverty? NO food shortages? and so on. Couldn't agree more. So I assume you must think every American must want to spend their money that way? You are aware of our president having a 24% approval rating, right? So it's obvious that 86% of the American's DON'T want to spend the money on WAR.
Next.
