Is this guy for real? "Improved" is a subjective term that many people would disagree with when describing Vista. The speed, compatibility and user account control have made many people stay away from or downgrade from Vista. Confirm or Deny?
XP works pretty well. The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems true here. Sure, XP is not the most secure operating system and it has its quirks, but I find XP stable, compatible, and quick, especially when compared to Vista. I see no advantage to Vista, other than it looks prettier. If I want prettier, I'll switch to OS X on a Macintosh!
Technology companies seem to put out a new version just to get people to buy the new version, not because the new version is so innovative or different. I can't blame the companies because it's good for business, but as a consumer, I see no point in having the latest and "greatest". Some examples are Windows Vista, HDMI video cables, Quicken's yearly updates, etc. All of these products produce results very similar to their predecessors. Do you really notice a huge difference in your Quicken 2008 over Quicken 2007? If I owned Quicken 2000, I guess I could justify the upgrade to 2008, but Windows XP works fine, people! :)
