A new report just published by independent market analysts Datamonitor, reveals that the next 3 years will bring buoyant growth to the electronic games market globally, spearheaded by console games. In the report 'Global Electronic Games', Datamonitor predicts that by 2004, revenues derived from games software will rise by 22% on those of 2001. Sony's PlayStation 2 (PS2) will dominate the home console market and whilst Microsoft will not succeed in threatening Sony's stronghold, it will overtake Nintendo to take second place in the console sector and successfully establish the Xbox brand as a serious name in gaming. Meanwhile, in the hand-held arena, Nintendo's Game Boy Advance will hold a virtual monopoly.
