Windows Vista unreadiness revealed | |

Microsoft has finally outlined the extent to which Windows Vista was unfit for the marketplace when it launched six months ago. A mere 650 applications were certified for Vista when it launched, compared to 2,000 now. Seventy "critical" enterprise applications from corporate mainstays such as Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks, McAfee, Citrix Systems, Oracle, SAP and IBM are "being resolved daily." On hardware, 600,000 devices have been certified in the six months since launch, now making Windows Vista compatible with 2.1 million devices. | ||

#1, and an equally relevant story about how Mircosoft has been directly and effectively addressing vendor shortcomings on behalf of Vista users - and another where Vista's instrumentation and baked in update application is, at a specific machine level, delivering solutions faster that at any previous point in personal computing history.
**The policy is that when ane "one" issue impacts 500 or more users, Microsoft engineers will produce a solution - be it driver, SW, etc... [the only condition is that the supported device must come from a vendor that is still in business]. ***That is some kind of support in my opinion!!! |

So ... 1.5 million at launch transformed to 2.1 million in 6 months!!! WOW. Impressive. |

Being "certified" simply means they submitted their applications to Microsoft's testing facilities and that those facilities determined that the applications followed the various best practices rules.
Just because an application isn't certified doesn't mean it won't work. I run tons of applications that will never be certified and they work just fine. Hell, I run games that are 10 years old. (Close Combat, anybody? :) I really hate The Register. They are the Fox News of the tech industry. |
