Windows Live Search's luck is changing, sort of. According to numbers
released by web metrics firms comScore and Compete, Windows Live Search saw its
search market share rise significantly in June, but the numbers could be
deceiving.
comScore reports that Microsoft's Live Search is up 3 percent from May to 13
percent market share in June. Compete's numbers show an even larger change
placing Live Search at 13.2 percent market share — a 4.8 percent gain from May.
What is it that Microsoft has done differently to create a new influx of users?
Better search speeds? Improved user interface? No, none of those; instead, the
company's release of a game called "Chicktionary" has been reeling in
fresh customers according
to both comScore and Compete.
