#5 "Microsoft, however, isn't really trying to win the open-standard wars in document formats between its own Open XML and the truly open ODF (Open Document Format). "
What wonderful Newspeak. If Sun owns ODF, it is "truly open". If Microsoft "owns" OpenXML, it isn't open at all.
"Microsoft is winning, as we can see from Massachusetts' decision to support Microsoft's Office Open XML format in addition to ODF. "
Yes. Microsoft is winning because Microsoft Office is a mature, full featured product. ODF implimentations are defective in many ways. Massachussetts had serious problems with the way ODF deals with people who have disabilities.
"For users with major visual impairments (frequently termed "low vision") OpenOffice.org is today not well supported by screen magnification in Microsoft Windows."
"For users who are blind, OpenOffice.org today is not well supported by screen readers in Microsoft Windows."
A Massachusetts state senator blasted the state's high-profile decision to adopt OpenDocument as a digital document standard, calling it unlawful and insensitive to the needs of people with disabilities.
