Won't need it. I've had enough...
This weekend I'm going to time-capsule my machine (save an image) and then go back to XP. I like Vista, but I've just had enough of the issues with hardware (who's fault it is doesn't matter - the net effect is I either can't use it or it doesn't work correctly). I've also had enough of the strange problems with not being able to reach certain office resources via Secureclient. And the File I/O performance. And the audio issues with games and recording software. Normally I'd like the challange, but it's just too much and I do NOT have the time for all this. TL |

BTW... when sp1 comes out, whenever that is, I'll buy a spare HD and put it in, and re-write the image back and install SP1 and whatever drivers are available at that time and give it another shot.
I haven't given up on it, I just can't deal with all the issues right now. TL |

#1,2, Sorry to hear you had so much trouble, TL. Cases like this are such a bummer to hear of. Regardless of why, such stories remind anyone that has been at this for any length of time, of the one or two cases they experienced where pretty much everything tried resulted in problems that seemed unsolvable. I wish I could offer more than empathy.
I recall a case [literally] where a few years back we set out to build a dream box for one of our guys. The fellas ran into just miserable issues from the start - failed to post at all... etc.. I suggested that the case switch itself was faulty, but the guys swore, that since the system powered up for a moment and then shut off, that it couldn't be that. As the day turned to night, and the night to early morning and we went through PSU's, MB's, CPU's RAM, etc... [fortunately, we have that stuff in stock all the time], my tired old butt moved onto a couch to catch up on some mail and as I left I suggested they boys try temporarily moving the reset switch to the PWR header and use it as a temp power switch. Well... it fired up and ran like a champ - so we replaced the switch, boxed a small mountain of tested parts and went back to the original build - which we finished in time for breakfast. <one of the fellas playfully made a "we're not worthy bowing motion" before we set out to finalize the build. It all worked out well enough, but because it was a custom see-through case, it was a bugger changing out all the parts [owing to the fasteners]. We've encountered worse over the years, but because that one was such a personal build, your post brought it to mind. It just sucks when one works so hard to make it "work" and it buggers us as it does - I feel for ya. Good Luck, L |

I stuck with it for 6 months, so I don't give up easily :)
The last straw was the fact that the Digitech GNX4 Guitar Workstation I have on order won't work under Vista :( I've tried to come up with what I will miss the most. The funny thing is, I can't think of anything that really sticks out! If I had to choose, it would be the faster boot times. However I've never run XP on this high-end machine. It may be just as fast :) TL |

As of 2am this morning, back on XP. Finally all my hardware is operating at full speed, and 100% functionality.
We'll try again when SP1 comes out. TL |
