If you use Easy Transfer, also use Easy Transfer Companion. Download it from MS. It lets you move over all Vista compatible applications, although MS Office needs to be reactivated. It took me about an hour to use both programs, and the Belkin cable, to move all the files, settings, and programs (except for utilities) over to my Vista Business laptop from my XP Professional laptop.
This is a useful tool. I did not have an older USB transfer cable. So, I bought the Belkin. This cable and MS software lets me offer to copy pretty much everything from a legal XP install over to a Vista PC for a customer. I prefer this cable over network transfer of everything, as either machine may decide to phone home during the transfer, screwing it up. |
