In his keynote speech today at Microsoft® Fusion 2001, Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corp., concluded the company's premier partner event of the year by discussing the importance of a new era in technology he called the XML revolution. More than 3,200 partners, including systems integrators, independent software vendors and solution providers, listened as Gates talked about the breakthroughs in technology driving revolution to Web services, including open Internet standards such as XML and new smart-client devices, as well as the dramatic improvements in processing power and connectivity to deliver the next generation of integrated, distributed and high-value business solutions. Although Microsoft has played a significant role in defining open Internet standards, including XML, Gates emphasized the critical role partners will play in ushering in this new era of Web services based on the Microsoft® .NET Platform.
