#1, Me, too!
We've done a lot of work with Crestron and Logitech's 880/890/1000 series remotes and while okay, I've always wanted the small pad/LCD to be able to access my PC/WMC in exactly the ways SideShow is intended.
I do suspect that we will see the tools around SideShow and the SideBar really drive how we access new intelligent devices like this and as devices like TV's acquire the ability to be reached across networks [we now have two that are compliant at home], that it will get even better. The screen needs to be large, though. My old eyes are getting worse each day and even lighted remotes are hard to see.
As the same devices benefit from Rally technologies introduced at last year's WinHEC and demonstrated at this year's conference, I suspect that nTV enabled consumer electronics will be integrated and accessible via PC's - see, http://www.thomson-europe.com/
If/as IP Set-Top Boxes (IP-STB) face home networks [perhaps using Windows Embedded] and leveraging UPnP-X, we can re-use all the same SideShow and SideBar Gadgets and the tools used to make them. I do suspect that we'll see STB's from the cable and sat companies that feature embedded WMC interfaces - as well as HDTV's that combine IP-STB functions with DMR access [baked WMC, etc....] and full support for HDCP hi-def content. So on one hand, certain PC functions will be less relevant, but at the same time, very rich HD/mixed experiences will be easier - all as we monitor important email, or voice mail from the couch and on a remote that integrates it all - all it'll need then is a VOIP capability and a speed dial - so we can order a pizza [quite possibly the most perfect food ever created].
