IE 6 garners one-third of browser market | |

The latest version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser has grabbed nearly one-third of the worldwide browser market, according to a new study. IE 6 was released last August, and in its first week on the market grabbed a 2.4 percent share, according to StatMarket, a division of audience measurement service WebSideStory. StatMarket said Wednesday that that figure has risen to 30.4 percent, making it the second most popular browser behind its predecessor, Microsoft's IE 5. | ||

| Pity that there are problems with default Privacy settings, we've having a real "fun" time getting our partners to implement their P3P policies, not because they don't want to, but because they haven't gotten round to it yet! |

| And it's potentially a legal nightmare--How do you accurately assess the appropriate rating for every single page if you have thousands of them or if you have dynamic content, etc... |

I think it's site-based, not page-by-page based.
In general, P3P defines how cookies are used (or abused) for tracking purposes. |

| No, it would be page-based, daz--certainly you could have different pages with different ratings or security issues, and you would want the benefit of the highly secure/private ratings when possible, but if you have to call out something that could be a security issue, you have to do it. That's the problem--once you begin attempting to comply, how do you deal with content that shifts and changes and grows over time. |

Wait a minute. Nobody has pointed out the really signifigant news here. If IE 6 is in use on 1/3rd of the desktops in the world, do you know what that means?
1/3rd of the world has upgraded to Windows XP!(*) That's got to be like 100 million copies sold since it's release in October. That is a phenomenal adoption rate! (*) This is only a valid assumption if you believe the premise that people only use browsers if they are preinstalled on the machine when they buy it. |

| #6 WRONG! You forgot the Windows 98/Me/NT4/2000 users who can install IE6. So 1/3 of IE6 users are using 98/Me/NT4/2000/XP. |
