The April 25 release of a feature-complete Windows Server "Longhorn" beta is a monumental milestone for Microsoft, perhaps more important than the launch of Windows Vista. As the nucleus of Microsoft's enterprise product strategy, Longhorn will likely pull deployments of other products, including Vista. However, uncertainty about the release of the first Vista service pack looms like a dark cloud over future upgrades. | ||

Once upon a time, Windows client was the most important product for MS. Now it is no longer the case. This itself shows their commitment and interest in the product and reflects the future. As for the Mac OS (X) too, I thought it was their most important product, but the iPod and now iPhone seems to have taken its place. Someone find me a commercial OS developer to whom nothing is more important than the OS. I dont want IT stuff, Web 2.0 madness or gadget craze. | #1: Actually, Apple's most important product is not the iPhone. It may become so eventually, maybe, but I'd have to say that their most important product is the iPod. That is what is making them the big bucks these days. |

| Enough with the "uncertainty" of Vista SP1. Microsoft has stated numerous times that Vista SP1 == Longhorn Server. I'd believe VP Muglia over some anonymous "spokesperson" anyday. The spokesperson is just trying to protect against the possibility that somehow they need to postpone one release or the other. But the cat is already out of the bag; the public already knows that the bits that make up Vista SP1 are the same bits that make up Longhorn Server. |

#2 is correct, however Mac desktop/laptop sales are particularly strong right now as well. Something has to bring people to these machines. It's part engineering, part OS X.

Don't forget the fact that you can now run Windows on those apple computers increasing sales. I know quite a few people who have bought one now that you can have the best of both worlds. |

Well ... sort of. They haven't actually increased much over the last few quarters. Apple shipped 1,517,000 Macintosh in Q ending March 31, 2007 Apple shipped 1,606,000 Macintosh in Q ending Dec 30, 2006 Apple shipped 1,610,000 Macintosh in Q endind Sept 30, 2006 This post was edited by NotParker on Monday, April 30, 2007 at 21:51. |
