Nice article. What will be interesting is a long-term review of living with Bitlocker. For example, what happens if you lose your USB key or it breaks? How does this affect maintenance tasks such as scheduled backups, disk defrag, virus scans?
You point out that resuming from "sleep" mode doesn't require reinsertion of the USB key to unencrypt the drive. Do you mean from "standby" or from "hibernation" mode? Most laptops are configured to go into standby after as little as 5 minutes inactivity. This would make re-inserting the USB key a pain in the neck (unless you left it in all the time and risked someone stealing it). However, from "hibernation" mode I would expect the key to be required, and if not, this would be a flaw.
You also ask: "I’m a little puzzled as to why BitLocker is not available in the Business edition of Vista, because seemingly, that would be the edition installed on the majority of work related laptop computers." There's a simple answer: money. Vista Retail: $299. Vista Ultimate: $399. Vista Business Premium with SA: ?, but probably also around $400. You should know better than to ask this question: Microsoft never leaves money on the table.
