Vista just “ain't bad”, it's very, very good. One week ago I assembled an Asus Z96 laptop with 256-MB ATI graphics, 1-GB DDR2-667, Core 2 Duo 7200 and a 5400-rpm HD. I installed Vista Business with no problems once Windows Update installed all of the remaining drivers. This took about ten minutes. This install exceeded my expectations. The little known Microsoft Easy Transfer Companion Beta transferred all of my programs, except utilities such as Perfect Disk 7, in about 30 minutes. Easy Transfer Companion even transferred VMWare player, and runs Ubuntu 6.1 in a virtual machine.
The only drawback is that HP doesn't offer Vista drivers for their 3-year old Business Inkjet 1100d. That's not Microsoft's fault. I'll buy a new Kodak printer if an HP 1100d Vista driver isn't available by the end of the month. My six month old Samsung laser printer worked immediately.
Vista runs fast. Relatively speaking, Vista makes XP seem like Windows 98 did compared to XP, in appearance, features, and performance.
