AMD uses the CeBIT to show in its fair stand's back rooms the two Hammer processors. But the company still did not comment on the clock rate. However, a radical method of mounting the cooling elements was to be discovered.
AMD already showed the two biggest processor novelties of the last months at the Comdex (Athlon XP with Thoroughbred core) and during the MPF (first Hammer demos). For the CeBIT they had shot their bolt even when the Athlon XP 2100+ (please see our review ) has not been launched until the first day of the fair.
Consequentely AMD has shown in Hannover only the already well-known prototypes of the Hammer systems. The Athlon XP (codename Thoroughbred), produced in 0.13 micron, was left behind in the stables, i. e. at home.
