I don't know if anyone else is in the same boat, but I had to order a new card this week. I was trying to decide between ATI and nVidia. I have no particular affinity for either, as long as the hardware is competitive (within a given price range) and the drivers are solid. In the past, it seemed like nVidia had the lead in terms of stability of drivers. With Vista, it appears to be the total opposite at this point. Based on my experience and what is apparently well-known (in fact, more or less admitted by nVidia itself... I went to find the special Vista driver issue submission site, but apparently their driver section of the site is down (due back Dec. 30th?!), and I won't bother to find the statement in response to the lawsuit acknowledging that driver improvement is a top issue) driver problems in the green camp, I sided with ATI.
nVidia--you had a LONG time to get your drivers together. You lost a sale... I'm betting I'm not the only one. I've had so much experience with vendors that don't treat new releases of Windows seriously, and it's extremely frustrating. I would cut them some slack due to the new architecture, but it's not that--all throughout the beta process, it was apparent that Vista driver development was just not their priority. Hmm... it's not like it's going to run on millions of computers or anything!
