All I can convey is what I see among my customers - new and existing.
Demand for Vista is higher than it has been for any other product I have seen. Demand for migrations to Vista, whether they are on new hardware, or existing hardware, are through the roof.
It is common for us to hear, "When am I, or are we, getting Vista?"
Now, grant it, once Vista hit RC2 we began to share with our customers what in meant and what it offered in a much larger context - e.g., alongside Office 2007, the new SharePoint and what our plans were for Exchange 2007 and our continued moves to unify messaging beyond what we have. We also communicated and demonstrated what it meant in terms of Media Center, HD, Xbox and even the Zune.
The results have been impressive - entire courses, set to be pre-loaded on Zune devices that are given away as part of medical education course materials in one case... multiple home installations parallel to business office migrations and fist fulls of new laptops and tablet PC's.
Requests for new service and new hardware have never been so high, and they have exceeded our present capacity to quickly deploy them. We've been working about non-stop since launch and there is no end in sight. This morning, I surveyed two new sites and consulted two others on the phone - speaking of which, I have to go, and survey them for builds this month. #5 is very probably correct. - Oh, and one last thing.... not one person, and many do have MAC's has asked for a MAC, but plenty want away from the MAC and the iPOd - one asked it this way.... "How do I get rid of this pience of **it [holding out hius second dead iPod" - to whit, I placed a black Zune in his hand - he loved it and ordered another media PC for his downstairs den on top of it.
