APC Mag |

My colleague Ashton Mills published the top 10 reasons you shouldn't get Vista this morning.
I see his point on some fronts -- admittedly, Microsoft's official publicity material hasn't done a great job of explaining the basic benefits of Vista.
Microsoft's talk of Vista's ‘richer experience' and ‘getting ready for a new day' just makes the hardened tech user roll their eyes and move on.
However, I've been running Vista at APC since the earliest leaked builds, and witnessed its extraordinary evolution as Microsoft meandered its way towards the final product.

For $399, there had better be more than 10 reasons...

At minimum, 1000 reasons. Serious. If I didn't already have a bunch of free Vista licenses, I wouldn't be running it.

If it wasn't for free copies of MS software, you'd be the biggest Linux supporter on the planet...

I pre-ordered the upgrade version of Vista Ultimate for my personal workstation for 256.00 bucks from Amazon. Of course, our MSDN subscription covers the test stations we run.
Still, 256.00 dollars does not seem like a great deal of money when amortized over the life of the product. I paid as much and more for XP and add-on media packs before the Super-Pack was released and its price dropped after some months.
I just don't see where all the noise over price is coming from.

I think the noise is coming from people who don't have millions of dollars like mr. ketchum...

The best reason for upgrading is vista/xbox 360 possibilities.
that combination comes pretty close to my hacked xbox in terms of media features.

#9, You're dead on there - that is among Vista's greatest capabilities.
Props, on your use of the original Xbox! I've seen some slick work done in that regard and our guys here like the idea and what you have done with it - sans the bit torrent access to protected media.
#8, Ah now, Chris... I hope you know each was earned and the vast majority shared to elevate young people far ahead of anything I have, or will ever have [no BS, on that]. I get your point, though and certainly respect anyone considering costs. That does not change the fact that I think Windows Vista is a good value and worth the price.

Cool. It's weird, though--I just checked NewEgg a few days back, and all I could find were the XP + Vista upgrade coupon options. I must not have been looking hard enough!
Thanks!

Same here bluvg, but the OEM's are now posted.
Has anyone done a dual-boot install yet? One thing that concerns me is I have Acronis's boot manager installed for their utilities.
