Firefox 3 gets a first run | |

Although Firefox 2 was released just this fall, Mozilla wants Web application developers and its own testing community to get their hands on the alpha version of Firefox 3. It has named the release Gran Paradiso Alpha 1. Firefox 3 will include some significant changes. It uses version 1.9 of the Gecko rendering engine--which itself hasn't been released yet and which includes the Cairo graphics layer. Gecko 1.9 has been in development since before the release of Firefox 2, and it provides vector-based rendering on all platforms. As the Gecko 1.9 road map explains, Cairo will "bring modern, hardware-accelerated 2D-graphics capabilities to the whole of the Web without requiring proprietary plug-ins or rendering obsolete the broad and rich set of Web-authoring techniques developed over the past decade." | ||

| #1: People are barely using IE7 even though it's being foisted on them via Windows Update. Firefox seems to be the browser of choice for tech specialists and IT-savvy users. It will be ACID2 compliant by spring, meanwhile IE7 will never be compliant. MS' lack of attention to standards that it didn't invent (so what else is new) is a continuing mightmare for web developers around the world. |

| Latch, I have yet to see a system that has had IE7 foisted on them, hell, even SP2 I am constantly installing on people's computer. |

Mozilla team seems to be on the fast track for Version 8.

12% on some weblogs. http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2006/December/browser.php And IE7 rollout is not only by choice, it is also throttled. Only some of the language versions have been released. |

#2. Firefox hardly seems to be the browser of choice. As an IT savvy user, I refuse to use it because of it's security holes, bugs, inability to render pages properly, slow launch and mediocre browsing speed.
ACID2 compliant. Yeah. Too bad that has nothing to do with a REQUIRED standard. |

Actually, I've moved 95% of my browser work to Firefox 2.0 BECAUSE of IE7. I can't stand IE7 at all. TL |

| Hilton has just finished testing IE7 and has moved their hotel properties to IE7. |
