IE 6 and 7 side-by-side on the same PC? Now it (legally) can be done | |

Developers and testers have been clamoring for Microsoft to provide a way to run Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0 and 7.0 side-by-side on the same machine. On November 30, Microsoft released a solution for doing so. Microsoft has decided to deliver a Virtual PC virtual-machine image containing a pre-activated Windows XP SP2, IE6 and the IE7 Readiness Toolkit. The image is time bombed and will no longer function after April 1, 2007. the IE team noted on its blog this week. However, "We hope to continue to provide these images in the future as a service to web developers," the team added. | ||

| i dunno, it would seem on my machine at least that ie6 and ie7 both work equally well as tabs in my firefox browser. |

| IE6 is still available and usable after IE7 is installed. It is hidden in an ironically labeled subfolder folder in the Windows folder called IE7. Click on the IE exe file, in the Windows\ie7 folder and IE6 fires up, even though the "About" in the Help Menu calls it IE7, its all IE6. |

Doesn't work here. First (home) page comes up, but any attempts to browse elsewhere results in a locked-up browser window.

| I use Netcaptor which runs on IE6. It stayed fully functional, along with stand-alone IE6 which is in the Windows/IE7 folder. Maybe MS made a concession to add-on browsers that use IE6 that lets them function after IE7 is installed. |
