Security firms Wednesday warned that another virus began making its rounds on the Net this week, and this one is masquerading as a Microsoft security update. The virus, a mass-mailing worm variously dubbed I-Worm.Gibe, W32/Gibe@mm, WORM_GIBE.A, etc., does not carry a destructive payload, but is capable of installing a backdoor Trojan which allows remote access to an infected system. | ||

| Never. Most people aren't even dimly aware of what a security update is or where to get one, if the OS doesn't prompt an AutoUpdate, anyway. They might figure this is another method that MS uses to update the end-user. I happened to get it yesterday, though NAV stripped the attachment before I even saw it. Not that I'd have run it, of course. |
