I have reviewed Microsoft's re-released IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 from 2000. Here is an excerpt: The mouse has the exact same design as the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3 mouse released in 2000, besides the color. The Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3 (2006) is about 5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, 1.5 inches high and weighs just a few ounces. The mouse includes five buttons (two on top, the wheel and two sides). This mouse does not include the Tilt Wheel technology as the 2000 model did not. | ||

The point is that the guts have been replaced with the newest optical technology, which is 3-4x more accurate. Some people love their Intellimouses (Intellimice?) and don't want any of the design changed, but they wouldn't mind having greater precision and tracking. I think that it's quite respectful of Microsoft to not abandon these people. Most people may have trouble understanding what the deal is, but, if you're one of these people who prefer the classics and don't like some things about the newest mice, then it's a big deal to you. As long as its buttons don't stop working after a few months -- a huge problem with the 4.0. My first IntelliMouse 4.0's left button started dying after just 3 months. I got a replacement, and now the replacement's buttons are starting to die (after about 6 months).
For reasons like this, I never trust hardware reviews that are based on less than two months of usage. |

I appreciate the latest technology as much as the next guy but.....couldn't they spend their resources on making a "you tube" like portal...oh wait This post was edited by RedHook on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 17:44. |

Patriot: My 4.0 mouse didn't stop pointing, but I really wore out the left mouse button (hitting sinister strike way to quickly in WoW, over and over and over).
The mouse overall is pretty cheap and was a huge disappointment, especially since the ergonomics of it are just FANTASTIC. I ended up getting the Laser Mouse 6000, which seems to be a much sturdier design. |
