After a successful bid as a supplier of Gigabit network processors, Intel Corp. will attempt to move into the next level of performance with the introduction of its first network processors based on the XScale architecture, which the company believes will enable it to compete in the 10 Gbit/s market.
"We are introducing a complete line of network processors that span the range of applications in the networking arena from customer premise equipment right through to the core of the network," said Nick Finamore, general manager of Intel's network processor business unit in Hudson, Mass.
"Despite the downturn in the economy ... there continues to be a need for new services, and need for flexible network processors."
