Under fire for reports that Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) misidentifies some genuine copies of Windows XP as pirated, Microsoft took the unusual step this week of releasing statistics about WGA's purported effectiveness for the first time via a blog. According to information posted Monday and Wednesday by Alex Kochis, a licensing manager on the WGA team, virtually all of the 60 million PCs worldwide that failed WGA's validation tool are indeed violating Microsoft's licensing policy in one way or another. Kochis posted his comments on his blog on the Microsoft Developers Network. | ||

| Of course they defend it...they invented it, this is their baby! That's just like the government saying the detainment of "enemies" in Gitmo is ok...it was their idea. To expect different is silly. |

I've geen to Gitmo (Navy Ref-Training). Gitmo is not ok. No matter why you are there.
1. Bugs that can pick you up and take you away. 2. Iguana's following you into the crapper (I kid you not). 3. Insert worst nightmare here. This is the most miserable place I've ever seen in my life. TL |

#2, not to be unkind... but you must not have seen a great deal around this world.
#3, I am totally with you on this one - true blue all the the way and I think how WGA has been rolled out just stinks - despite it actually having helped us out some by securing back some sales we had lost to people who were loading hard drives. If it is going to work it needs to be 100% ready before it is thrust upon us like this. |

#3: It's not going to hurt their bottom-line at all. I mean, ask yourself: are YOU or your company going to do anything about getting reamed by WGA? No. Neither will millions of other screwed-over WGA victims. Moans & groans in various forums will be the only response for most. MS knows this and therefore doesn't really give a rat's ass about how many people are getting shafted. You can afford that attitude when you have a monopoly and your users are locked in to your technology.
#4: And what would you know about what he's seen? Been there yourself, have you? Or are you just doing a Parkkker and defending Gitmo because you're a Bushie? |

| #6 I'm not sure lketchum was defending Gitmo so much as saying that there are worse places on planet Earth. I'm thinking of those places in Africa that they show on tv that I could save for just pennies a day. |

Way off topic - sorry...
I think TL meant that he very strongly disagrees with US foreign policy opposite the treatment of terrorists and what are classified and irregular, or non-uniformed combatants - which by the way, are not protected by the Geneva Conventions - they are covered and the convention allows them to be treated as being outside the groups of regular combatants the conventions are design to protect. I vividly recall a great deal - we once were asked to invetstigate what was thought to be smoke on the horizon... it turns out it was clouds of flesh eating insects that were so numerous, they appeared as smoke - feeding on thousands of human beings slaughtered by only one of many armed factions using food the US and others had provided as a form of currency they had stolen form the people they had just butchered. I wish that was the worst of what I have seen, but it isn't. For more than two decades I patrolled one shithole after another on this earth - ironically, building more water wells and treating more sick kids than anything else and not once was the US responsible for the conditions I saw. So yeah, there are things worse than the detention facility at Gitmo - a lot worse. Like it or not.... we are in a war declared upon us by people who want us dead. It's not just about Islam, or Arab desires to wipe Israel from the earth - it is about a very few million nut cases that are bent on killing all of us - most especially other Muslims that do not conform to their version of Islamic beliefs. Please pick a side - any side - but pick one - just one. If it is with the terrorists then please go join them and engage us in open combat. If it is not, then do not aid our enemies - disagree if you must, but do it in a way that does not ask us to negotiate with a type of people that are not interested in coexisting with any one, or any thing - they just want us dead and gone. We as a global people need to accept that what we are fighting is not new - it is just next - the next group of very dangerous people who wish to enslave all others. Debating why we, or any nation with any history is "bad" or in some ancient way, "responsible" is something we do all the time - it forms the basis for trying to do something better than was done before. The terrorists aren't doing anything new - just in new and more effective ways. All they understand is murder and if they do murder all of us and we all accept them are gone - then they will resort to what they used to do - murder one another and invent religions to justify it - their prophet after all, was just a bandit who had encircled Medina and Meca - controlling trade routes and access to these two cities. He wasn't interested in peace, or God - he was interested in power - his own. The Jews were mightly inconvenient as is empire expanded and from that time, one may trace Islamic Imperialism on a scale that would make any empire jealous - and it did, too. TL, this is one complex world and its history is actually pretty short and not too difficult to manage. and one last thing for the record..... I'd and many others wish to share that we'd gladly trade living quarters with a Gitmo detanee over many of the quarters and mil hospitals we've stayed in. Finally, The IRC has facilities "in" Gitmo - any of you may volunteer and actually "help" care for the terrorists detained there. You'd see for yourselves that they live incredibly well - a state never afforded US Uniformed POW's! |
