Office 14: You Want Roles With That? | |

Microsoft has talked vaguely about how Office 14--the one after Office 2007--will borrow from the "role model" in the new Microsoft Business Solutions' ERP and CRM apps. Following up comments he made at Software 2006 a few months ago, Microsoft Enterprise & Partner VP Simon Witts told CRN recently that there is a "clear desire" is to go to a more role-based version of Office. So there might be an Office 14 version for sales people, for example, he said. | ||

Skipping Office 13 would be so lame. It's just a version number, the product will still end up being Office 2010 or something. There's no reason to skip over it.
This is worse than the chip manufacturers calling 666 MHz chips "667". The only time they rounded a 66 up instead of down was for this. I believe both Intel and PowerPC chips did this, too. |

| superstition is funny. fully logical people, and many of them not given to religion or other areas of "faith"... will go out of their way for superstition reasons. I've always found that funny. |

| #1 It's quite likely that it'll end up being Office 15 as I believe the number 14 has similar superstitious beliefs in parts of Asia. Many companies that sell their software world-wide (e.g. Sybase) skip v13 for the US and v14 for Asia. |

| MovieMaker hilariously went from 2 to 6 (as the official name) presumably because MS realized they hadn't updated it in a long, long time, and just because people don't use it, they do make movies and expect it in Vista. |
