Microsoft "Terrarium" Game Demonstrates Continuing Developer Enthusiasm for .NET Platform | |

Microsoft Corp. today announced that its "Terrarium" game has been downloaded by more than 9,000 developers just one week after its launch, demonstrating continuing developer enthusiasm for the Microsoft® .NET Platform. "Terrarium" is a peer-to-peer distributed computing game written using the Microsoft .NET Framework, Microsoft's new programming model for developing and running applications and XML Web services. Developer interest in "Terrarium" comes on the heels of Microsoft's launch of the .NET Framework and Visual Studio® .NET earlier this month. | ||

| Just to save some people some time, Terrarium doesn't yet work behind a NAT, so if you're running behind one, don't bother downloading. |

#4 - First off, Terrarium was created by some Microsoft programmers in their spare time. Second, Terrarium is a LOT of fun... it is a GAME after all. Third, ever heard of Robocode? It's the Java equivalent (albiet a poor one) of Terrarium.
#5 - Yes, there is a way to communicate between animals... but it's not in the API, per sais. I'll give you a hint: think bees. As of right now, there really isn't evolution. Evolution requires mutation, but there is no mutation in the Terrarium. Yet. :-) You can, however, "teach" your offspring a little bit by passing them a data structure in the BeginReproduction function call. This can only be a small amount of data, but it can be *very* useful. |
