Lure 'em with prizes. It's an age-old marketing method, which is why some CEOs still swear by it. Steve Ballmer, the chief executive of Microsoft who is said to be renowned for swearing, probably knows this all too well.
In a three-month promotion called "Search and Win", MSN Search has announced it will give away prizes and charitable donations to people who punch in the right keywords to its search bar. More than 1,200 pre-identified monikers have been chosen for February and more will be added for March and April. Choose the right one, Microsoft says, and potential loot includes a Target gift certificate, a Sony LCD TV, or for the particularly lucky-cum-benevolent, a $10,000 cash award to a charity of choice.
