Developers itching to test drive Microsoft's latest instant messenger can now bid for an invitation to join the test program on eBay. Some 70 invitations to the Windows Live Messenger 8 beta test program have been posted on eBay, with many sellers looking to make around $25.00 per invitation. The beta program has been made available to a limited audience of private testers, although program participants have been issued with a number of invitations for friends, family or "the highest bidder." Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger team said the program's size was restricted to limit the hits on its back-end servers. | ||

| The register - a place were journalism goes to die. I love articles written by morons or people who are writing them to sensationalize the truth. The passes put on ebay were not by Microsoft. They were put on ebay by the beta testers themselves. This is not stated or at least not clear from the article. Microsoft cannot control this. Each Beta tester has been given a certain number of invites (2 i think) to invite other people to use the new Live messenger. Doing this to keep the loads low on the servers - like what Google did with Gmail beta. To use it your passport account has to be associated with the beta test or Windows Live messenger won't work (although there is a workaround for this already). So beta testers, not microsoft, are selling their invites on ebay. Who cares if some moron wants to pay for an invite to a beta program that they can use already witha workaround for free? |
