| How come Outlook, Publisher and InfoPath don't have the new toolbars? Just because it's a beta (then again wouldn't you do all the toolbars at the same time) or because these apps will be "different"? In which case will Project, Visio etc have the current or new toolbars? |

Only the core apps are getting the new UI this time around. Office 14 will bring on the rest of the ribbon UI to the other products. The other products don't get as much funding, so they focused on new features, bug fixes, and feature enhancements.
Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Microsoft Office Excel, and Microsoft Office Access are the only products getting the ribbon in this version. |

| Outlook New Message window will be getting the ribbon ui also. It seems that the Office Team will be skipping the number 13. |

| whats the point of the skipping version numbers? Joe Blow doesnt know the version number anyway. Most of the time they don't even know the difference between Office 2000/XP/2003 |

13 is considered bad luck in many countries tgnb. It's a popular bad luck number, and there are people that will not use or buy a product with that version number.
In our hotels that we own, we skip the numbering of the 13th floor. Goes 12 to 14, and none of our room numbers end in 13. |

#9 A lot of places in the US miss the 13th floor - sort of taking superstition to an extreme in my opinion but whatever works for you! Interestingly enough, the number 14 is though of in the same way in many Asian countries which is why Sybase for instance went from version 12.5 -> 15.0 (to skip 13 for US an 14 for Asia). Given that Office is sold in most/(all?) Asian countries I'm suprised that they would make Office 14 - I figured they would skip to 15 for exactly the same reasons.
Thanks for your answer in #4. #7 The whole 95, 97, 2000, XP, 2003, 13 is confusing enough - not sure what marketing were thinking there. Why companies, as it's not only Microsoft who do this, screw around with version numbers like this is beyond me. |

| #11, the code number such as Office 10, 11, 12 for example are all temporary, by the time the product hits beta 2, the official named will be applied. I think Office 2000 beta name was Office 99, not sure. I have see the version number skips my self, examples in Mavis Beacon and Print shop which jumped from version 12 directly 15 and then 15 to 20. |
