Windows Vista: The Final Countdown Begins | |

Windows Vista is the biggest release for Microsoft since Windows 95. With that release, Apple was tested -- and they failed miserably. I was at Dataquest at the time and not only did I warn Apple to take 95 more seriously, I also accurately forecast the massive decline that would happen to them if they didn't do just that. This was in 1994, after Steve Jobs had been fired from Apple. Of course, he is back now. Apple is again growing with the market and, unlike 1994, is dominant in an emerging market -- digital music players. However, Microsoft has changed as well. | ||

| I agree. It's also the first article that I've read that brings a little history into the picture by suggesting that Apple underestimated Windows 95 and then implying that they're underestimating Windows Vista, as well. Apple has or will have matched a lot of Vista's visual elements with their widgets, hardware GUI, desktop search and more, but dressing the front of your product up doesn't change what's underneath, and Rob Enderle's main point is that Microsoft's back-end integration "is light years ahead." The importance of the back-end and how everything integrates is what Apple is underestimating and 2006 should be an eye-opener for them, similar to how 1995 was. |

If the world is run on iPods maybe that would matter, but really OS X is terrible. It is beyond flakey, their own built-in apps crash badly, they cant put any effort in fixing the little usability things becuase they have such big bugs (anything that has anything at all to do with networking is broken), Printing still sucks Kernel Panics -- you want to talk Kernel Panincs- I see them all the time I have been using OS X on a somewhat limited daily basis since 10.2 - it is no better now than it was back then - just more junk on top of system that at any moment will die on you. (Although I would like Automator for Longhorn - I always thought having a macro creator like Excel for Windows would be great - although nowadays its probably not a good idea) |

| #3, have you been using the same machine since Jaguar? If so, it sounds like you might have some bad RAM in there. I've never seen anything like what you're describing on any of our Macs. In fact, I don't think I've had a kernel panic since 10.2, maybe 10.3, but it's been long enough that I can't remember. |

I use the latest stuff - we had 4 dual G5s (two of which had hardware issues) when they came out - we have G5 iMacs - we have a Mac Intel (I have not seen it yet though - the line is very long)
To me, the OS sucks- to others that may not need it to actually do anything it may be fine - especially if they are already used to crashes - something that after 5 years of 2000/XP I see as unacceptable (I never crash - ever) |

| Guess i'm like #4 - only had one kernal panic since using OS X for three years. |
