The cost of migrating from Windows XP to Windows Vista will encourage more companies to seriously consider moving to desktop Linux, the chief executive of open-source and networking company Novell said on Monday. Speaking at Brainshare, the company's annual European user conference in Barcelona, Novell CEO Jack Messman claimed that the cost of moving desktops to the next version of Windows will be significantly higher than migrating to desktop Linux. "The cost of migrating to Windows XP to Vista will be higher than the cost of migrating to Linux and that will push migrations to Linux," Messman said. | ||

They are living in a fantasy land - cheaper to go from XP to Linux then XP to Vista. Maybe they should go and talk to whoever is doing the Munich transition. 3 years on and they might get a 200 computers running Open Office this year - on Windows though. I wonder how much money they have spent doing this research and testing so far and they are not even close to begin after 3 years.
Yeah my guess is thier objective assessment will come as a swift kick to the crotch for being so stupid. I hope their business plan isn't based on this or they are going to be in big trouble. |
