Microsoft's IE pulls further ahead of Firefox | |

Newly published figures released by web monitoring firm NetApplications show that Microsoft pulled back market share from rival browser users last month. Microsoft's Internet Explorer was used by 87.2 per cent of website visitors in July, up from 86.56 per cent in June. Firefox, the second most popular browser, saw its share slip slightly from its high point of 8.71 per cent last month to 8.07 per cent in July. "Mozilla recently created a for-profit division just in time to see its FireFox browser drop 0.7 per cent in 30 days," noted Dan Shapero, chief operating officer at NetApplications. | ||

Oh, this just can't be true. I thought we had all agreed that there was an endless stream of geeks that could keep firefox growth going until IE hit 0%.
pick a response ie-haters: - this poll is bogus (msft paid for it) - this poll is bogus (the surveyor's website is too ugly and they don't even know css) - this is only temporary due to msft forcing ie on users as part of the Scottish police deal taken from the linux camp - this is only a temporary response to the public loving the new IE logo. And then call for an immediate update to the firefox logo - this is because OSX is so hot. Safari use is out of control and skewing the overall results btw, i thought opera was going to stop reporting itself as IE. Wasn't that supposed to make IE's share go DOWN? | I would be classified as one of those nasty IE haters. And do you know what? I couldn't give a damn which browser any of you use. So long as Firefox is available and prevents drive-by malware and owning of my system/data via webpage due to the exploit of the week, I'm happy. I really don't understand this mindset of yours that compels you to defend all things MS all the time. IE is inferior and behind the times. Just admit it. Integrating it with the kernel was just about the stupidest thing MS did. IE7 may change that, maybe, but I doubt it. |

#3: It's why they are referred to as MS Apologists (or MS Zealots)... they can see no wrong, or room for improvement, in MS's products, corporate culture, or level of innovation(!).
They defended IE while Firefox gained market share. They said that IE was superior to any other browser. They said that web standards are ridiculous and, besides, with IE being the dominant browser everyone must go with IE's interpretation of the web. They said that the browser is dead as we know it. They fully supported MS's decision to never, ever release a new IE. Then, one day, MS jolted their zealot base and announced IE 7. Boing! What is this?!? A new IE, but why dear MS, why? (The zealots must have guidance from the motherhsip.) Oh well, Firefox pushed MS to update IE to everyone's benefit. (Of course, the MS Apologists don't believe Firefox had anything to do with MS's decision to make IE 7.) I own some MSFT and MS gets held to the highest of standards by me. I expect more from a company with the talent pool and cash reserve that MS has. |

I did it. I successfully removed all the normal excuses and #3 and #4 were reduced to referring to me as an IE lover ("Apologist", "Zealot").
Re-read my first response (#1) and show me where I show you that my "mindset" "compels" me to "defend all things MS all the time". I didn't defend MSFT or IE. THIS JUST IN. BREAKING NEWS... It will soon occur to c|net and other "trade mags" that the 80million firefox downloads includes the same user multiple times. |

Lucky guess on my part? Or, maybe the 1000+ other posts by you... Ah, just admit that you're a MS zealot and get over it--it's not such a bad thing. Kind of like how MS has counted every sale of every version of Visual Studio as yet another C++, C#, VB, Visual FoxPro, and VJ++ developer? |

It's interesting to watch how the tactics used in politics have made their way into discussion forums. mooresa56 used the "deflect attention by addressing potential excuses before the other side can" effect with a touch of "attempt to make the whole discussion seem ridiculous ahead of time so no one can discuss it seriously." He sure is a master of propaganda.

#3, IE is NOT in any way shape or form integrated into the kernel! I can't believe how many people actually believe this. It flat out is NOT.
IE is no more integrated into the Windows kernel than Konquerer is to the Linux kernel. It is only "integrated" in that Windows uses the rendering engine to display certain things (like help files), or the more browser style layout that Window Explorer took when IE4 was launched. It also allows developers to use IE's engine in their own applications. Hmm... wait a second.... Konquerer is EXACTLY the same as IE in this reguard. What do you know? Oh my goodness..... so is webcore! |

| CPU, an easier way of saying that is "IE is integrated into the shell." Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer share code. To the kernel, however, IE is just another app. |

I don't understand this slavish devotion to Microsoft. I've been using computers since the days of DOS 2 and my next computer will be a Linux box or a MAC.
The greed and vulnerability of Microsoft just keeps getting worse while it's products don't seem to change. Open Office is a great alternative to MS Office for most folks. Personally, I love it. Mozilla is faster browser than IE ever though of being never mind being more secure. Nothing new has come out of Redmond for years. The troublesome XP is nothing more than toy code added to the venerable NT. Microsoft hit their peak with Windows 2000 when they added PnP and a simpler DUN to NT. The geek toys in XP have caused problems for millions of users and for what reason to try and put companies like Roxio or Nero out of business and track what people burn. WiMP 10 rats users out to the RIAA and isn't that good of a player to begin with. I'm 60 and learning a new OS isn't going to be easy especially when you deal with the behind the scenes stuff but when Win2K goes away Microsoft will leave my desktop altogether too. I'm just fed up with the weaknesses and problems associated with Microsoft products as well as with their heavy handedness in killing off good apps along with their exhorbitant pricing. |

I'll wait to see what all the other web statistics firms out there have to say before I even attempt to discuss the alleged loss of Firefox marketshare.

latch, I've made Microsoft concede on more than you can imagine. I buy a ton of product from them and negotiate hard with them. You see, that is how I gripe... in a fashion that serves a purpose (my and my company's purpose). Whereas you are simply wasting your time on a pro-windows site, having no more responsibility than buying your next version of Norton system suite. ps... i can't wait to hear the IE-haters respond when opera's market share comes out of the IE basket in the new few months. | I'm not an IE hater, I just like Firefox better. *shrugs*.. And as I stated there is no sense discussing the article without knowing if other web statistics firms see similar activity nor whether this is an actual new trend or just a fluke. I also didn't jump up and down on the first news story stating Firefox was taking share from IE. I waited to see a clear trend then too. They don't even tell us if the margin of error is smaller or bigger than the percentage Firefox aledgedly lost. |

I'm not an IE hater either. I just despise the extra 20-30 hours a week it costs me in support time because of Spyware infections.
