IBM targets Microsoft's suite spot | |

Once mired in a stagnant market, IBM's Lotus division will use industry standards to loosen Microsoft's grip on desktop software, according to the outgoing Lotus general manager. The Lotus division, which includes IBM's Notes, WebSphere Portal and Workplace products, turned in a 17 percent year-over-year revenue increase in the second quarter--the third consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. That financial performance, highlighted by CEO Samuel Palmisano's quarterly review to employees, demonstrates that IBM's Lotus division has successfully reinvented itself and the market it competes in, Lotus General Manager Ambuj Goyal said last week in an interview with CNET News.com. | ||

If this article wasn't posted on ZDNet, I would swear that it was a BBSpot spoof. I don't know which part was funnier - "Lotus is becoming a jewel in IBM's software crown," - IBM has a crown? Let alone having jewels in their crown! IBM software sucks. If you don't believe me try Lotus Notes. I rememrber when we used to buy their desktop and laptops. They would include in every box a free copy of Lotus Smart Suite. Guess what? No takers - and it was absolutley free.
Or this, "Even though IBM's ambitions in the desktop software arena are not fully known . . ." Yeah, its stealthware - they can't even identify it! lol IBM continues to have the only true monopoly in techdom - mainframe hardware and software. With that monopoly and their far ranging services division, they are able to fanagle their enterprise customers into buying what amounts to a lot of crap. |
