We will still link to blogs when they contain important information, but should we link to the more editorial posts, assuming we believe they hold some interest to our audience? | I believe those voting NO believe your editorial choices will be based on the blog's ability to incite argument rather than simply holding "some interest to our audience". |

| Considering the quality and depth of information I've seen in some of the linked blog posts, I'm all for it. If it's as mooresa56 says, though--simply a way to incite argument--then we end up having events like a few weeks ago, when a few of our best posters left due to a particularly useless and hopelessly uninformed rant link. I realize the option not to read the article is completely our own (although I think the assumption is that what is linked here is worth our time to read), but that example seemed like a gratuitous attempt to get comments rolling. |

| Thanks for the link - It's too bad they apparently left, as they were both great members of the community. I'm not sure what to say since since I didn't post the article. There is a thin line between keeping people informed about what people are saying about Windows/Microsoft and just trying to get people riled up. Knowing Chris, I don't think he was just trying to get people to comment on his post. I don't know, I can't speak for him. But working on keeping our content informative is very important, and something we should always keep an eye on. |

I voted no based on the James Proud story. Posting a link to a blog that speculates on things with no facts to back them up is useless. I like coming here to get news, not speculation from an "enthusiast." I'm an enthusiast. At least Thurott seems to have some sources at MS that back his stuff up.

I think that blogs are fine from those who are recognized as authorities on a particular subject - INETA speakers, book authors, members of product teams, etc.
Frankly, I don't care what some guy has to say about MCE, unless there's reason for me to believe he knows what he's talking about. If he's on the MCE team, he's worth my time. If he's in the press corps and Microsoft has given him a copy, so he can write a review, he's worth my time. If he's some no name with a blog, he's not. If no name bloggers are mixed 'n matched with known authors and respected authors (no, I don't pretend to say that all the non blog articles posted here are from respected authors), this site becomes much less useful for me...I can filter on my own, I come here to benefit from others doing most of the filtering for me. |
