I think you are letting words confuse you.
Think about this. If it wasn't a 64-bit processor, 64-bit OS's would not run on it. Which they do. TL |

| You're right Capn_crunch : the Athlon 64 is certainly not the only 64 bit CPU. First of all the latest Pentiums from Intel (Pentium 4 series 600, Pentium 4F, Pentium 561 and the Pentium D) are all 64 bits CPU. Then the Athlon 64 is indeed built on the x86 architecture which means it just has more registers than a 32 bits CPU. |

| You're right about it being badly worded, I'll fix it when i get home, I didn't expect the review to be up today. Might be the best 64 Bit CPUs, but not the only ones. |

That wording is from one of AMD's taglines. The tagline is misleading though. At the time of the tagline's conception, Athlon64 was the only 64-bit "Windows compatible" CPU for mainstream desktop PCs/laptops since Itanium targeted servers/workstations (and Windows on Alpha was dead), but the wording is poor and was never totally true.
