#4, Just rude, or base, or both at the same time.
It is more than sad that truly post-worthy threads are ignored....
#2, It is entirely appropriate that you have used a childrens book as the basis for your position.
I'm kind of sad that no one recognizes how helpful and enjoyable a simple to use home server will be.
As a central aggregation point for digital media - serving all PC's and connected/extended devices on a home, it would be ideal. Similarly, with many media features, like multiple tuners, or cable-cards, it will serve to acquire digital signals of all types and allow multi-plexed recording and distribution of all forms of digital media.
As a central point for securing all systems and distributing updates and monitoring OneCare system protections, it will be perfect for busy families who are adding PC's to their homes as fast as often as they equip all rooms with TV's and other electronics.
As a communications HUB for telephony and Club/Family Sites mated to dynamic DNS and publishing systems, families will be able to quickly and nearly effortlessly, publish dynamic websites for their busy families and all of their activities - team sites for sports clubs, churches, school activities, etc...
There is a lot more here than meets the initial eye and it's going to be a very welcome addition to many families.
Many families I know now have a server and being among them, I would very much welcome this addition. While our own DC/ISA/Panda, etc... controller is very powerful, running a network at home is on occasion a bit more than most would wish to set up and running ISA 2004 on an AD DC, [not SBS (I simply do not like that product)], is beyond what most people want to learn - though I do assess Microsoft has made it easy enough that anyone capable of reading could do it in a few hours.
All kids' books and spderman lunch boxes aside, this server will happen and it will help a lot of very busy families and Microsoft will provide yet another welcome and superior product - because they chose to build something rather than snipe at others. I for one will be building them and happily installing them for families looking for real solutions - and adding yet another revenue stream that Microsoft creates for its partner base.
