It's exactly what they've done all along, actually. Most of the OS team is NeXT. OpenStep was multi-platform. OS X has been developed for 5 years on both platforms. If anything is much easier to say, THIS WAS THEIR STRATEGY ALL ALONG.

And QuickTime and ColoSync and CoreData and CoreImage and CoreVideo and WebObjects and Carbon and Cocoa and WebKit and about a thousand other technologies... Not to mention apps: iLife, iWork, Final Cut Pro, Logic, Shake, Motion, GarageBand... Not to mention services: .Mac and iTMS.... Not to mention the WHOLE OS is still an asset, it's just platform indepedent now... yeah, they're reduced to a GUI.
