Google and Microsoft View Each Other Differently | |

Despite recent search developments and a respectable third-place market market share, Microsoft is still not a competitor in Google’s eyes. Addressing the audience at the Technology Alliance luncheon yesterday, Google’s chief executive Eric Schmidt identified Yahoo! as their main competitor. He downplayed the notion of Microsoft as a main competitor in the search market. Schmidt explained that Google’s focus is to innovate and less concerned with competiting corporations. Microsoft, however, seems to be very focused on Google. At the D3 conference in Carlsbad, Bill Gates expressed skepticsm over Google’s ability to continue its domination of the search market. Both Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer have previously said they will continue to improve Microsoft’s search offerings. | ||

| Or, Google knows as soon as they would say, "Yes, Microsoft is a competitor" it would be all over the front of Time magazine with the company names written on the side of trains steaming towards each other and how only one can survive....you know the drill. Of course they are competitors, Google knows it, Microsoft knows it, and everyone knows it. But by saying it the Media will have a "hay day" with it and blow it all out of proportion and start asking things like "Steve, how do you feel the search for friends function on X-Box Live compares to Google’s search technology?" "Are you concerned that Google could develop a G-box 720beta that will take some of the X-box 360 market share?" As usual, the media ignores the obvious (yes they are competitors) and blows some insignificant comment out of proportion. |
