Well let's take your analogy and go with it #4...
We have, today, an alternative to gasoline called ethanol. Ethanol is a renewable resource extracted from corn. It also burns cleaner than gasoline and is safer on the environment.
Is the oil industry are stifling our ability to run cars off of ethanol? Is it a giant conspiracy between them and the automobile makers? It must be, right!?
However, in order to make this case we're going to have to ignore that we can't produce enough ethanol to power all our cars, not all cars are compatible with 100% pure ethanol, and the cost to produce ethanol is more than the cost to produce gasoline.
So I disagree. If this was the oil industry, I would be saying the same thing. These lawsuits are politically motivated by competitors who are too incompetent to compete.(aka Sun Microsystems, Oracle, et al)
