Microsoft has pulled together a number of subtle improvements that add up to an impressive leap in technology. Halo, a Quake-style shoot'em-up, goes a long way toward showing what the software giant has in mind. Players run, drive, fly and spelunk their way through gun battles on an alien planet. One of the game's trademarks is an expansive horizon with huge moons and gorgeous sunsets. Halo 's gun battles are fast, with smart and attractively designed enemies.
