One significant difference between the Xbox and PC version are the splitting of the levels. Due to the Xbox's limited memory (64MB), it simply couldn't handle the large levels found in the original version of the game. The solution? Break them up into smaller chunks. "It's more like thinner slices of gameplay," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software. "It's the same thing, but as opposed to 24 levels on the PC, we're at 45 levels on the Xbox."
