Microsoft Anti-Spyware? | |

The ink is barely dry from Microsoft's acquisition of the GIANT Company Software, and already they are offering the first public beta release of a new application called Microsoft Anti-Spyware. In other words, Microsoft is getting into the anti-spyware market in a big way. What does this mean for customers? Part of me wants to applaud Microsoft and say that this is a very good thing for their customers, albeit a move that is long overdue. The other part of me says that this is a band-aid approach and a funny way for them to admit defeat - because it's holes in Microsoft's operating system that built the entire spyware industry to begin with. What does this mean for the security industry, and where are we headed with spyware? I'll try to explore both sides of the fence. | ||

Thanks for FUD explanation. I just thought about writing "FUD?" in Google and I got a result! Don't know why I haven't tried it before.

Haly....you are wrong on every count. Then entire article besides the first two lines are FUD. Secondly, MS offers an enormous amount of security updates, auto updates, antispyware, firewall, popup blocker, activex control, add on management, more secure IE6 SP2 default settings and yet you STILL complain. It's funny how those who ask "when is MS going to get this and get that and secure this and secure that" then they do, and you find yet another reason to complain. All I can say is "told ya so". So typical.
1. You have no idea if MS will charge for updates 2. You have no idea if MS intends to make antispyware changes by default to Longhorn 3. You have no idea if MS is offering this solution to ONLY benefit them and not the consumer You also know that since there are billions of copies of Windows out there that MS cannot update those OS's to be as secure as they would like them to be. There IS no better way to secure those OS's without offering a solution such as this (which is the same solution other OS's use as well). No OS is anti-spyware or anti-virus capable. NONE. |

Unlikely. "Usually when I use a lot of big words I run it through a MS spell checker." Why? You don't like MS products. You already stated so. |

It's not a "standard" word: "Nonstandard usage: A moment’s thought will reveal that since the prefix ir- means “not” (as it does in irrespective), and the suffix -less means “without,” irregardless is an illogical double negative.
